FREE CENSUS RECORDS ............but wait, there's
more...
No free set of
steak knives on this site, but you will find info on free census
records. Plus there's other stuff, free and otherwise - including
software.
Freebies Everywhere
Mention the word
free census records
or free anything and the entire world will beat a path to your door -
or website. Well, that's what I'm hoping. But I have another more noble
motive. I believe that genealogical records should be available for
free. Check
these links to great sites
Governments should provide
free census records and other civil records. On the other hand
commercial sites are,........ well commercial and you have to be
prepared to grab your wallet on occasion. But there are many web sites
that are free, or almost, and this is the page where you can access
them. There are also sites that require you to take out a subscription
to use their services, but many also offer free trial periods from 7 to
14 days. This allows you to assess their relevance to you and your
particular area of research. Great idea and not to be sneezed at or
ignored.
Software
There's little point in accumulating all this information from the
internet, be it free census records or whatever, if you don't have
genealogy software to manage it.
Otherwise you will soon find yourself buried under a mountain of books
just like our poor friend here.Click on the graphic and I'll show you
some great products, many of which are free!

Time and Money
As for free genealogy research sites, they are a bit leaner on the
ground. After all time is money - their time, your money. Professional
genealogist's will do your research for you and charge you by the hour.
But why pay someone else to have all the fun? I have hired researchers
on rare occasions, but only because it would've cost me substantially
more to travel overseas to access the records myself. And that was some
years before the internet. Now much of the information is just a click
away.
You will find millions of web pages to do with genealogy. Just go to www.google.com and
type in "genealogy". There are literally millions of sites. Will they
all be useful in your search?
No!
Which is probably just as well as it would take a lifetime to
check them all. But don't worry, I will throw you a few tasty morsels,
including free census records, to get you started right now.
Clue #6 - Don't put it off
