Finding clues to your ancestry is what this site is all about and, importantly, as inexpensively as possible. Here you'll find shortcuts and resources such as free software and free genealogy sites.

Take the time to find your way around because genealogy does take time. Lots of it!

Finding clues, though, is just the beginning. Knowing how to put those clues together, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, is the key.

We all love a good mystery and this is your own family mystery. It may not be a best seller but it will provide your with answers about who your ancestors were and the lives they led. Genealogy is the study of your ancestors and you'll get excited by the prospect of sifting through the clues that determined who YOU are.

The Websters Dictionary defines genealogy as:

  • An account of the descent of a person,family or group from an ancestor.
  • The study of family pedigrees.

Genealogy, geaneology or geneolgy - whichever way you spell it, is all about tracing your ancestors.

What makes you, you?

In a nutshell you are you because of your ancestors, and
   tracing your ancestry is genealogy.

Clue #1 - To move forward, go backwards.

Sounds a bit cryptic doesn't it.
Start with you and then work your way back as far as you can go. Your parents, their parents and so on. Write down dates of birth, marriage, death etc. We'll get to the forms you need and how to fill them in shortly. For the moment, just take it one step at a time and get comfortable finding your way around.
